The “Threat” of Climate Change Refugees—and How Nationalist Policymakers Should Deal With It

The “Threat” of Climate Change Refugees—and How Nationalist Policymakers Should Deal With It
  • International institutions love veiled threats toward the West whenever we begin to act in our own interest. Lately I’ve dived into the huge number of publications warning about how the West must prepare for waves of “climate change refugees” who will be pouring out across the world—and toward our shores—because so many rising Western political forces are now skeptical about the standard climate change narrative. This is a very stark threat when you step back and look at it. In effect the international institutions of the post-war era are saying “get in line with economy destroying climate madness or we’ll flood you with even more Third World refugees.” The media is also participating in this menacing of the Western publics.

Gaia Vince, a BBC journalist, climate activist, and prolific author, has said that the “century of climate change” will cause billions to move across the world and that Western countries must be prepared to take them in because we are aging ourselves out of existence.

A black and white text AI-generated content may be incorrect.

    To quote Ms. Vince

“Large populations will need to migrate, and not simply to the nearest city, but also across continents. Those living in regions with more tolerable conditions, especially nations in northern latitudes, will need to accommodate millions of migrants while themselves adapting to the demands of the climate crisis.”

Another example is from Ottilie Bälz of the radically pro-migration Robert Bosch Stiftung (I.E. foundation) of Germany that proposes international legal frameworks be put in place that allow anyone from a “climate vulnerable area” to move to the industrialized (Western) nations of the world to address our apparent skilled labor shortages.

A tree branch with text and a building in the background AI-generated content may be incorrect.

The United Nations is also hard at work on this problem. In one UNHCR post the organization advocates that climate refugees be protected by the 1951 Refugee Convention while in another post the UN cites an “independent expert”—appointed by the UN—who says that countries must create legal protections for those who proclaim themselves to have been displaced by climate change. NATO is also preparing for an era of mass climate change related migration. The organization correctly calls this mass migration a security threat and while it gives some modest lip service to trying to reduce the threat before the waves of migrants arrive, it ultimately wants Western nations to take in masses of climate refugees:

“To that end, NATO should leverage its long-time leadership on civil preparedness programs to enhance member countries’ capacities to absorb increased numbers of migrants. For example, NATO regularly develops sector-specific guidance and tools to help national authorities, including how to manage the movement of tens to hundreds of thousands of people in the wake of a disaster which could be adapted to prepare for climate-related migration. NATO also has deployed civil experts based in Allied nations to provide tailored advice—these experts could play a key role in educating and preparing member states for more migrants.”

The European Union is also preparing for an era of mass climate driven migration and has published numerous documents on how creating a legal framework for climate refugees to move about the planet is an absolute necessity. This echoes all of the other language from major international institutions about coming massive climate related migration and more importantly is the implication that it will all be headed towards the United States, Europe, Australia and any other part of Western civilization. The estimates provided range from 200 million climate refugees to 1.5 billion with an average appearing somewhere around the 1 billion mark. It certainly won’t be China, Nigeria, or Brazil taking in all of these refugees, it will be the West unless something is done about it.

I am not going to get into the morass of arguing about whether or not climate change is real, or caused entirely or mostly by humans, or the extent to which the entire thing is a scam or not. Whether or not climate is fake, real, a scam, or a serious concern, the priorities of any nationalist in government in the West remain the same. Making policy at the national and global level to prevent more mass migration into our countries and to reverse mass migration where we can. Our money is spent by the global system, our countries are part of that system, and thus we have the ability to shape the priorities and functions of that system to fit our interests.

The first thing any nationally oriented Western policymaker needs to say is that under no circumstance will any Western country accept “climate change refugees.” It is a first order priority of nationalists in the West to tear down and replace the current overly broad refugee and asylum system with something that protects our national interest and so expanding it with climate based protocols would be to act in direct contravention of our national interests. It is Western countries that already give the most climate change mitigation related funding, to the tune of tens and hundreds of billions of dollars, and that isn’t even counting Western private sector contributions which also number in the billions. We have fulfilled any moral obligation to help our fellow man by so generously giving away our citizens tax-dollars for unaccountable international institutions to use—there is absolutely no reason we must also throw open our borders to the entire world we’re so generously giving money to.

The second is that the West should limit its general financial support for “climate mitigation” to physical infrastructure and land reclamation so as to limit any justification for massive movements of people. Currently the United Nations expresses a deep skepticism of land reclamation because of perceived coastal environmental damage but the reality remains that the only way to save a sinking coastline or entire South Pacific nation is to build more land and create physical barriers such as sea walls.

Third is that Western financial support for climate stressed regions will be linked to the support given by other wealthy countries. Currently the super wealthy Arab oil states, China, Singapore, Turkey, Azerbaijan etc. give almost nothing towards climate change mitigation projects and the global system relies entirely upon a coalition of Western states and Japan. We are not going to shoulder this massive financial burden ourselves and in fact we are going to lessen our contributions significantly until and unless the other wealthy nations of the world step up to do their part. Global climate mitigation policy cannot be wealth transfer out of the West to the rest of the world.

Fourth and finally, Western countries must make global acceptance of our remigration priorities a condition of our participation in global climate mitigation projects. No Western country should contribute to climate mitigation efforts or contribute funding so long as countries and the global system promote migration into our countries and refuse to cooperate with our remigration priorities. Until the cultural, demographic, and social stability of the West is ensured we cannot afford to focus on other far flung global priorities.

Our civilization and our leaders must not fall into another globalist agenda derived trap. We were told we needed migrants for our economy, then we were told we needed migrants because we were aging, then we were told we needed migrants because of their “high skills” and now we are being told we must accept migrants to meet global climate change demands. The only thing we must do is stop the destruction of the West.
